Re: thin crack in wall after lining paper
Cracks are a law unto themselves. Sometimes you fill them and never see them again and other times they reappear
even if the surface seems really solid.
I would recommend raking out the crack and filling and then using plasterers scrim tape, followed by easy fill before painting.

If the lining is well stuck you could leave it on and just treat it as if it is a standard painted surface.hooly wrote:no other cracks, bar next door banging about, so u mean strip lining paper, then rake fill etc then line and paint again, if so will have to wait till next yr now, never noticed it, till lately, wish I never looked, cheers

Re: thin crack in wall after lining paper
Rake out the crack without destroying too much of the surrounding paper.
Fill crack level with surface.
Apply Toupret fine scrim

This stuff gets painted on and is really fine.
When its dry apply a coat of Touprets fine surface filler

Feather out the edges to blend into your current surface, if necessary fill again feathering out further.

IMO if you are going to use a scrim. I would cut the paper back and then you will blend it in easier.

That toupret scrim is mega fine, it feathers in real easy.
If using a normal scrim then yes I would cut a strip out to bed it in.

Re: thin crack in wall after lining paper
Painted lining paper which has a slight textured finish. Cut away paper and fill which will have a smoother finish once painted. Not nice.
Cut the paper back. Sort the crack using one of the above methods.
Then splice a new section of lining paper in and paint. This leaves a uniform finish to the paint texture. It is DIY, you ain't worried about time or cost.

I'm with you ROC...I'm not sure you wouldn't see a filled section that had been painted. I think a patch with a very small amount of filler would be my choice.

Re: thin crack in wall after lining paper
Well the Toupret fine scrim is just that, mighty fine
It can be only 10% of the thickness of a standard scrim tape, maybe less
Agree with y'all about the repair showing out but unless you re-roll the entire wall the repair will stand out regardless of which repair solution you choose...............................................just sayin.

Good advice, but what do you mean exactly by "Fill crack level with surface"?upagumtree wrote: ↑Sun Mar 02, 2014 9:44 am Rake out the crack without destroying too much of the surrounding paper.
