Repairing holes in wallpaper

I've just moved a TV and there are holes in the wallpaper. In this case, the paper is black & white, but the damaged areas are different shades of grey. Short of finding a length of similar paper to cover the repaired holes, what are the proper ways to make them as invisible as possible?

Buy some acrylic paints from The Works. They do an artists little pot set for £2 or £3. You can mix up the shade needed to disguise the holes.

I do not know - this is only a suggestion......

Tear/cut up some kitchen roll, bog roll or tissues (these are all 'fibrous') into small pieces. Dampen (not soak) them with water and stir them in to a small amount of dry filler powder (Toupret, Polyfilla). Take a large pinch of this mix and roll it round in your fingers to a pellet shape. Push it in to the hole and leave for a couple of days.

If the hole is in a coloured area, get a tester pot of emulsion a similar colour and use a tad of this instead of the water.

If the holes are below eye level, then filling and touching up with matching paint (properly done) will most likely work fine.

Patching wallpaper is fairly straightforward, but the blade must be new (snap a new section for each cut if you need to) and the cut lines need to follow the lines/features in the pattern for the repair to be as unobtrusive as possible. Don't whack a vertical cut across a blank area of the paper if there is a line next to it that could be followed. Cuts in blank areas of the paper will draw your attention and are harder to fettle. By using the design of the paper as a template for the shape of the cut section, it makes it harder for the eye to pick up on the repair.
