Best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting
What's the best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting and a laminate floor? I normally use SF's no nonsense caulk but wonder if there is a better product?
The gap is only about 2-3 mm but there's complaints of draughts.

Surely with the bounce in a laminate floor the caulk would simply break up and the draughts would return.
Is edging strip not an option?
Clear silicone?

Sorry I meant silicone not caulk.
What's the best silicone to use? I normally use the no nonsense stuff but someone suggested another brand that apparently has more flexibility but I can't recall the name he mentioned.
Edit: I just remembered it's Ever build brand. It has a flexibility factor of 25% where as the one I had only had 12%.

Just remember you can't over paint silicone. What about this:Argyll wrote:Sorry I meant silicone not caulk.

Looking at the photo of that stuff it states on the bottom of the tube 'flexibility factor 12.5%'. The exact same as the normal stuff.ahfix wrote:Just remember you can't over paint silicone. What about this:Argyll wrote:Sorry I meant silicone not caulk.

I would say that the best stuff to use is a two part collaboration called Scribe and Jigsaw!Argyll wrote:What's the best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting and a laminate floor?

If the sub floors that bad you need to scribe the skirting to the laminate you shouldn’t even be laying laminate in the first place...lake wrote:I would say that the best stuff to use is a two part collaboration called Scribe and Jigsaw!Argyll wrote:What's the best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting and a laminate floor?

Re: Best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting
Bit left of field this !
Having recently fitted skirting in my new kitchen down onto porcelain tiles which are bedded on tile cement onto XPS under floor heating insulation I was concerned about how to finish , being a bit of a “flash gap fan” I actually had a load of 5mm UPDM glazing double sided tape and put this on the bottom of skirting as I fitted it , worked a treat , then even used it on the bottom of the kick boards under the cupboards !
I await a severe talking too LOL , crack on guys !

Woah!!! Lots of people making assumptions here.
First of all the skirting and laminate were laid years ago. I had nothing to do with it. The person feels there's a draught coming from the small gap at some points in the skirting. Probably only a couple of mm but none the less she's asked me to fill it.

Re: Best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting
On a uniform gap of a couple of mm I’ve never had any bother using everbuild silicone.
I just use the closest colour match to the skirting, which in 90% of cases is white.
One of those fugi kits is handy for this job as well.

Cheers Stevie. I have one of the fugi kits. I was just concerned about expansion of the wood.

What's the difference in expansion/contraction between 12% & 25% over 2-3mm?
(it's about 0.3mm)
One day it will all be firewood.

Re: Best stuff to use for filling a gap between skirting
It turned out some parts were about 6-7mm so I bought the 25% flexibilty factor to be on the safe side. I was just going by what the lady said. It turned out she was underestimating size. Who knew
