Morning Guys,
I'm planning on replacing our loft hatch at the weekend and was wondering what would be the best timber to use for the job. We stay in a 1950's semi and the loft hatch looks original and is in need of some attention, I was planning on removing the old one and using this as a template to cut another one - not sure on timber but thinking of something like 12mm ply? We have one of those loft ladders that hooks onto the back of the hatch and folds into the loft so it will need to be able to support the bracket for this.
Also hinges, would standard 3 inch ball bearing door hinges be suitable for this job or is that overkill?
I saw the thread earlier about latches and securing the hatch, I will probably try and retain the original soft close latch and add some additional latches externally in case the soft close one fails.
Thanks in advance

Re: Loft Hatch Replacement
12mm ply should be fine, with a suitably sized frame.
