Hey guys, i need to pick your brains on options.
Basically we've had the walls plastered and the walls are further out than the door frame. So i figured id pack it out with some timber and nail the architrave to that. So heres what im asking. Do i put the architrave on and fill the gaps with chaulk etc. Or do i plain the packing down and fit the architrave, but wont the architrave be slightly bowed then? Ill show pictures, sorry if theyre not too clear, my wife took them.

Re: Fitting architraves on uneven walls
Or do I hack the plaster away and sink the architrave into the walls?

Re: Fitting architraves on uneven walls
Sorry I can't tell how far out the plaster is proud of the frame but in most cases I tend to rebate the back out of the architrave. Trying to cut it into the plaster can result in more damage although it's not impossible. Sometimes it can depend upon the finish on the arcs , a paint finish is more forgiving as caulke can be used to fill smaller cracks or gaps.

Re: Fitting architraves on uneven walls
You just need some finishing profile/architrave of your choice. D shaped or more fancy if you wish. Fit to front edge and it will cover the gap.
