Cooker hood installation

Hi all, hope you're well on this chilly morning?

I want to install a hood over my cooker and have it vent outside. I plan to use 100mm rectangle ducting along the top of the cabinets and then out through the wall. My concern is that on the exterior, about the place where the vent will be is an air brick.

What are my options and considerations here?

You may also notice a previous vent which is now covered by a unit. Not sure what the story was with that.

I have a similar position "air brick" in my house 1989 build; it was the old outlet for an extractor x'pelair type fan which was made redundant with the newer kitchen fit; what does your neighbour have inside, as it looks more inline with the top of the window and cabinet than blocked by the cabinet, perhaps your duct has been plastered over.

The question I'm asking is more about how to vent out if the hole I core is on the other side of the air brick. Is that ok to do and do I need to do anything special?

Understood but perhaps a builder can confirm but I don't know why you would have an "air brick" at this height so I questioned, perhaps wrongly, if it was a previous vent!

I think it is there to vent as there is an inside vent, now covered by a kitchen units. Weird though, as they seem to be at different heights.

The stagger on the original vent might be to do with the window lintel but again need a builder to answer!

And I get what you were trying to say before now mate, sorry if I came off like a blunt tool!

Do other houses (next to you) have a vent up there? It might help a bit.
