Energy saving? My @rse.....

Fitted some GU11 CFL lighting to the kitchen today....... :wtf:

They take soooo long to come to brightness they have to be LEFT ON to enable the place to be used safely :wtf:

Serves me right (I suppose) for (a) believing all this 'green' b0ll0x and (b) spending £19.99 on a 4-way lighting strip BULBS INCLUDED

I suppose I'll have to fork out £13.99 for EACH new CFL that actually lights up when I switch it on........ ::b
Don't take it personally......

I've just been round to fit a new light for my parents - not so keen.

It's one of those bar lights with 4 spots on, but my mum likes it.

Had a quick butchers and found that during production, they had screwed the earth cable into the insulation, not the crimp - all metal light. It's also rated for 'max 11W bulbs' - if you could see the cables inside, you'd understand why!!!

Penny pinching at the risk of the customer - must save them a good few quid over the production run

The way I see it, is someone would buy the light and install it. The lights are not bright enough (11w CFL supplied). They look at LED and think WOW how expensive and get a 50W GU10. Install them, the cables melt the fitting becomes live (bad earth). Customer electrocuted.

Would have taken 5 seconds on a jig to test continuity..... bastards.

Forget CFL `s they are "low energy" con !
If you realy want low energy about 1/6th of the power or 5w Cree LED instead of 50w tungsten Halo.
I have changed a 6 way 50w GU10 fitting that consumed 300watts to 6 x 5w Cree XP LED warm white now only 36watts and just as bright.
The 8w Cree LED `s are even brighter and cost about £7 each & last 50 000 hours

I think the key for energy bulbs, especially LED based bulbs is to see them in person before buying to make sure you will get the desired effect!

I replaced a 15W incandescent pygmy lamp in my upstairs washroom with a 3.5W LED from Aldi. FAR brighter and instant start.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.
