Dulux plaster sealer

Post by jason123 »

Just used 2.5l of the stuff, ran out and bought another 2 one litre tins, just got the room done. I know at nearly £12 a litre its not cheap, but I absolutely hate giving new plaster 20 coats of watered down emulsion just to seal it, anyone else ever used it, it goes on light blue and drys clear, got the magic white for the ceiling, goes on pink and dries white :thumbright:

Hi Jas, It is very good stuff, and will save you quite a bit of time when you come to paint.

The 'Pink' tracker paint, is a bit strange at first, but again, it makes life a bit easyer when you come 2nd coat. :thumbright:

Hi WD can you say whether it will dry back to the original plaster colour, its not wet at the moment just tacky, still got 14 hours to go to give its true 24 hour drying time, but its very dark and I dont think its gonna lighten up, mrs J has chosen two colours from dulux, the roman stone 6 and 3, seen here http://www.dulux.co.uk/servlet/ColourSc ... an_stone_6

I think I should undercoat in something light, what do you suggest?????

Jason,

Used the roman stone range on a house last year and it should give you a good result, no need to undercoat just apply two coats that should be good enough, what finish are you going for matt/sheen/silk - if you can buy trade the coverage is far superior than retail Dulux.

Id rather undercoat in white once and use the colour once, would come to the same thing work wise, and undercoating in white means I wouldnt run out of premixed colours. There is no guarantee of a perfect colour match if you have to go back for more.

Jason,

you might find that the white will be a bit harsh and still need two coats, unless you undercoat in an off white. You will normally find that 5L will do an average size room 2 coats. Depends on finish, what you going for matt, silk or sheen?

Ive got six litres of roman stone 6 for three walls and 2.5 litres of roman stone 3 for the chimney breast (2.5 litres was cheaper than 2 one litre tins) all in matt

You should have more than enough there for two coats mate, but if you want to undercoat I would use an off white, but I would still then put on two coats it just looks so much better and gives the colour depth

one coat wont cover, dont bother with the white your wasting time and paint, just do two coats of colour. Roman Stone is popular I am sure I have used it too

Hi Jas, the primer will lighten a little, or rather the colour of the plaster will come back a bit when fully dry.
Emulsion wise, white would not be the best move, to light.
If you are still uncertain, and would prefer to fist coat in a colour, use magnolia, diliution rate, not more than 10%, as the plaster has been sealed and will not take any water out of the paint.
Finish coat wise, same rules apply, but try neat first, you can always thin after if a little to thick.

Otherwise, go for it! :thumbright:
