Loft & Base for Tiling

Post by handyman2011 »

Hi wonder if someone could advise me on what base floor to use for a loft bathroom ie. what to put onto joists. Will use floorboards for rest of loft (22mm i guess). My understanding is it will be best to tile on cement board, so should i use floorboards in bathroom, then have cement boards and tiles on top? Was thinking it might be better to have ply or chipwood underneath in order to have something slimmer than floorboards. If chipboard or ply, what thickness should i go with?

And lastly, what would total thickness of cement board and typical tiles be?

Cheers

Have you had the joists checked to see how much weight they will take?
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

We have had new floor joists put in, I didnt mean we were laying on top of the existing ceiling ones. I am just wondering what to use as flooring for the bathroom, which is going to be tiled
