I appreciate that BA, we all have different ideas of style. I was drawing on the Op's photos and he seems to have a contemporary design in his home already. I liked the previous table he made from the block worktops and the stainless steel base was very well done. I just think that as much as this lump of wood has an interesting shape and figure it is also bloody hideous too.
Just my view, I wanted to give the OP a differing point of view which he will be either miffed with or appreciative of.

Live edge oak top restoration
I'd be interested to see how this worked out (I know it's a fairly old post tho) lovely piece of oak, i'd stick it on the wall for a showpiece if it's too big for a table (or the rooms too small for it)
