One of the easiest ways to repair a damaged pipe is with a compression repair coupling, this is probably the best way to repair a damaged copper or plastic pipe, although pipe inserts must be used with plastic pipe. Do not use pushfit fittings on chrome plated pipe as the stainless steel grip rings cannot grip the hardened chrome surface. If you must use pushfit connections on chrome pipe you must remove the chrome first- pushfit on chrome pipe

nail in pipe   Here we have a common scenario, where a nail has punctured a water pipe. The first thing to do is isolate the water by following the instructions on this page. Do not remove the nail until the water has been isolated, now drain the pipe work by opening the correct taps, so if it is a cold water pipe you only need to drain the cold water pipe. If it is a central heating pipe you may have to isolate the header tank (if you have one), then drain the system.

pipe slice   Do Not use a hacksaw to cut the pipe unless you have something to remove the burrs with.!

You must use a pipeslice for copper pipe or a designated pipe cutter for plastic pipe, this is to prevent damage to the sealing rings within the pushfit fitting.

sections   The damaged section of the  pipe will need removing in order for the pushfit pipe repair to fit without kinking.

Remember that the pipes will push into the fitting by approximately 20mm at each side.

insert pipe   Push one end of the pipe firmly into the pushfit repair fitting

insert pipe   Then push the other pipe into the other end of the fitting.

Push the pipes in firmly as far as they will go, then try and pull them out, this should be impossible by hand!
