Protecting your head is extremely important especially when people are working above you, a screwdriver that falls from a persons pocket that is working above you could easily kill !
|
|
This screwdriver fell out of a work mans pocket that
was working at height, Luckily the person below was wearing a Safety
helmet (hard hat).
Had he not been wearing the hard hat he could easily of been killed! |
|
A hard hat will hardly ever bee needed for DIY but a bump cap often comes in useful, especially if working in the roof space or other confined spaces.

A safety helmet, more commonly called a hard hat is
the head protection of choice for industry and all building trades.
It is often mandatory to wear a hard hat on many construction sites.
This will offer good protection from falling objects and although you may still be injured it will be to a far lesser extent than if no head protection was worn. |

This is a bump cap, although it looks similar to the
safety helmet (hard hat) it offers far less protection and is
normally used to stop you from banging your head. It is not designed to stop objects which fall from above and should only be used to prevent banging your head when working in confined spaces. I can't imagine anyone wearing this cap voluntarily as you would look like a contestant from Takeshi's castle! |

This is another bump cap that is designed to look like a regular baseball cap, this looks far better than the bump cap above. These bump caps are great for working in the roof space where you risk banging your head on beams etc. |
