A new fault has appeared recently on my Acer Veriton N260G
After a normal session I can log off, but sometimes when I try to log back on, when the screen with the username and password field appears, there is no flashing insert point and entering password does not show, though the mouse pointer works ok.
The only way to get going again is to restart the computer and then all is well.
Any ideas, anyone?

Cat, Is it a USB keyboard or a PS2 keyboard?

It is a PS2 type, also by Acer, supplied with the computer, Dave. The mouse is a USB type.

try pressing the tab key or ALT+TAB to get the focus of the text box, (to enter the password). Could require an XP update or driver update.
Dave will know more

I've had a quick search on Google and some users have found that the following fixes the problem. Click Start, then Run. In the box type regsvr32 shgina.dll and press Enter. If this doesn't work, a work around is to press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at the login screen. This displays the standard Windows logon box.

I used the ALT- CTL - DEL method twice, it works. Will try the other ideas tomorrow.
