Amblers steel.

I have a pair that is about 2 years old. Unheard of for me. I normally go through a pair in about 9 months, give or take. This pair are comfortable, afordable, and very lont lasting.

My missus bought me a new pair for christmas, I insisted on the same pair. I use them when my old ones are drying out.

They are on their fourth pair of laces, and second pair of insoles, but they simply show no signs of giving up. There is some wear and tear around the fabric that surrounds the ankle, but the rest of the boot is almost like new.

There are no holes at the toe, like all other boots I have owned get before they pack in, and there is no sign of the sole coming away either.

My boots put up with alot. I wear them for ~60 hours a week, 51 weeks of the year. I lay concrete in them, and don't wash them ever. I don't even brush the cement stains off after walking around in concrete all day. I am truly amazed at how well these have lasted and was going to review them for the site when I had time.

scroll down to the model; fs199, those are the ones.

I bought mine in 'Mole valley farmers', no idea if they are nation wide or a local firm though.

Cost about £35 each time iirc

dead link removed

edit; even cheaper I think -

I also found a pair for £45 so it pays to look around.

I like my DMs, 7 holes, industrial ones. Very comfortable, as long as you have decent socks on. they dont have padding round the top of the ankle.
I find some with big padded ankles catch on my jeans, and stop them moving freely. The air cushion sole doesnt seem to get quite as cold as ones with the solid soles.
Mine put up with a fair bit aswell, welding sparks, cutting sparks, grinder sparks, walking over heavy swarf, paints oils. Go through a few pairs of laces, usually due to them getting burned.

I imagine they arn't the best for someone doing lots of spade work though, due to the fairly soft sole.

I reckon its one of thoose questions that doesn't really have a specific answer.

As for riggers, i cant stand them.

I like riggers but they are not allowed on a lot of sites now even for non hot work trades like us. Still I can walk the dogs in them ok without question :thumbright:

BTW why are boots in the handtool section?

Perhaps Chez should start the PPE section.

we get free roam of the work boots section, we are allowed up to £25 cost price (as opposed to selling price) anything above £25 we have to pay ourselves

My nephew who is a gamekeeper and myself have these.

Your boss will faint at the price but they do last.
