Heres me, always thought my job in life would be carrying a compact mirror n a lippy - now i'm sporting a handbag with tape measure and grout etc in ...anyway...
My newly aquired house/venture has a case of woodworm, it came up on the survey, and ive seen the evidence, the skirtings and doorframes in teh kitchen and doorstairs loo have a good number of bore holes where the little blighters have and are being...
How do i tackle them?
Is it a big job?
Could i actually do the job myself?

Any help and advice would be great

Thanks
Alison

It depends just how bad the timber has been effected.

If it is really bad then you are better off replacing the timber, especially bits like skirting etc. If it is joists and as long as they are not falling in bits you can treat them with some woodworm killer.

I used cuprinol 5 star wood treatment last time. Make sure you read the instructions and wear the correct PPE etc.

When I discovered some woodworm damage in my roof, I sprayed all the timbers with Ultra borax crystals dissolved in water. Much nicer than Cuprinol, you can go back in after 30 minutes, lethal to invertebrates, but harmless to animals and humans. It isn't waterproof so only for interior use.

As UHM says, for small timbers, probably better to replace, but the important thing is: KEEP TIMBER DRY, and you're safe against worm, moulds, fungi, and insects.
