I am installing some new outdoor sensor lights around my home, to replace older sensor lighting.

The wiring I am using will be the exisitng 3-Core + earth cable.

For the old lights, they were continuously on sensor mode plus there was a separate override to allow me to switch them on permanently. The lights themselves had connections for L, N, E + also a fourth connection for the 3rd yellow wire in the 3-core. I guess this is what went to the overide switch.

However, the new lights only have connections for L, N, E. Can anyone explain how I should wire the 3 core to this to enable me to have them on sensor under normal operation + the override option to switch on permanently if required.

Many thanks.

Sounds very much like your new lights have not got that override facility :cb

It'll probably have a power on/off trigger for manual overide. Turn off/on within 1-2 sec - goes into manual/constant on mode. Turn off for more than 10/15 secs then it goes back to auto/sensor mode. Read the instructions.

As it is, seems like you don't need the yellow core - make sure to isolate it at both ends if you can, othewise be sure to put something appropriate at the light end to isolate it.

I would say it is the yellow core that he needs to use to power the lights as this is the switched live. The red is a permanent live (assuming that a madman has not used the blue for the permanent live).

So the red would need to be appropriatly isolatated not the yellow.

Thanks. Have connected yellow core and isolate red. That works for normal senor operation. But manual overide not working based on manu instructions of switchin "of-on-of-on". Will talk to manufactureres.
