Hi

We have recently purchased a new oven which is due for delivery tomorrow.

When i have removed the old oven today there is a double socket outlet, the oven was plugged in to one of the outlets with a 13amp plug the other has the gas hob plugged into it. I was just wondering if this is correct? I was under the impression that the oven would need to be hard wired to a spur?

If the oven comes tomorrow and requires hard wiring can i just put a plug on the end and plug and play?

I should add that above the worktop there is a red isolating switch where the double s.o can be isolated. There is also a breaker on the mains db labeled cooker.

Thanks in advance

Jono

If the oven (when it arrives) has a plug connected then you're good to go...if not then it'll possibly need a dedicated feed from your consumer unit..depends on the Kw rating of the oven.

If you have a link to the oven, or know what the rating is (Kw or Amps) then can advise further..

"Requires hardwiring Yes - 13 Amp cable without plug connected."

lifted from the blurb

Less than 1KW...surprised it says on the dixons site that it needs hardwiring..I'd be tempted to put a standard plug on it...However we don't want to invalidate the warranty, so I would suggest a short length of 2.5mm T & E to a FCU, fused at 3A, hard wire into that.

(T & E is twin and earth, FCU is one of these http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electri ... 633/p28571 )

Though I can't see why a Plug with a 3 amp fuse wouldn't do as well....

i would expect it to be nearer a 3kw oven its quoting kwh so assuming once up to temperature it cuts down or off averaging 0.79kwh but this is just a guess as i dont know :dunno:
