My wife started to play with "Speech Recognition" for writing emails because using a keyboard exacerbates her Neuralgia, (basically just pain to her chest and arm).

She never really got to grips with it and doesn't send many emails (and I'll usually type them for her anyway when required).

Something that she did has made "Speech Recognition" always come on when the PC Starts up.

That in itself is not a huge problem cos I can turn it off, but for some reason turning it off causes the PC to fail to respond to other commands for about 30 seconds or so.

I'd like to be able to stop it from coming on at Start-up but can't find where to do that. I'm sure I could have done that in Win XP which I used for many years but I can't find it in Win 7.

I'm not finding "start up menu" in Task manager - I can probably stop SR from running from there but can't see how to stop it from starting.

That sounded good, a bit like something I remembered and was looking for - but when I get there, Start-up says "empty" (which seems a bit bizarre).

Go to Start menu. In the blank field at the bottom [Search Programs & Files] type Speech Recognition
Select Speech Recognition under Control Panel
You will see the Configure your Speech Recognition page
Select the Text to Speech on the left handbar
Under Speech Properties you will go to the Speech Recognition tab
Go to section three - User Setting
UN Click Run Speech Recognition At Startup (First Box)
Click Apply

Ok, try entering 'config' into the search box that appears UNDER the 'all programs' button.

It will throw up a couple of suggestions so click on 'system configuration' - this will open another box with tabs across the top. Click the startup tab and remove the tick from the boxes of the procedures (programs) you don't want to run on startup.

You will be prompted to restart before these take effect though.

<edit> fcuking 'flying fingers' BG beat me!!!! Ghaaah... :cussing:

Cheers Billy - what a frigging stupid place to put it.

Why would anyone look under "Text to speech" for a control function like that? :cussing:
