OK they came in through a hole in the wall but shouldn't there be a detector covering the area they was crawling in?
I have had alarm call outs due to mice and rats so how can a jewelers be broken into by a grown man and not picked up?

Is it cos burglars are a bit cleverer than mice and rats? :dunno:

When I fitted alarms they were designed to alert opportunist intruders, often ground floor only, and they were powered from the 50 volt supply, and we had thousands of telephone lines so it would have been hard to work out how to disconnect, however I am sure there was a way, but there was not that much worth stealing.

They say "This was a meticulously planned and audacious raid on a jewellery shop with £1.8m of items stolen." clearly they knew how to disable the alarm, in some cases all it needs it to phone the number so the phone is engaged so the alarm can't ring out. In many places I have worked an audible alarm is not permitted, all you have is a little blue light flashing.
