I am looking for a new web host, and I am asking if you have a web host which one and how do you "get on" with the hosting.

The reason I am asking is my current host has been sold to another company (twice so far) and the support / ease of use has gone down hill. I will start a new website as opposed to transferring as this way it will be a "clean sheet"

I appreciate your opinions, but please don't suggest "host it myself" as through experience I have found it easier / less cumbersome to pay a company to do it for me.

I like the fact that you can design your site on their software and modify whenever you want. You can also link to social media if you use it to update. They only allow so many links before you have to pay an additional fee. You can add a gallery though so could avoid this. Not sure what renewal cost will be. Got a good deal with go daddy the year before and then they doubled the cost on renewal.

:thumbright: I never liked the sound of go daddy adverts, so I was never going to try them, now I know not to bother.

Time will tell if wix employ the same tactic. It's common for most things to increase on renewal these days. No reward for loyalty. I'm happy to jump ship if needs be when the time comes. WordPress will be my next choice.

Hi,

Good luck s-e in your search. :salute:

I'm of little use on this subject because I simply do not understand web hosting or indeed many modern things associated with computers.

I wanted my own website for many years but always found it much too complicated. I now have my own website which is free through Google; it's very limited and for some reason comments are blocked but I tend to use my website more as a diary; if I could enable comments on my website then I would be happier but I've spent hours trying without success; anyone can contact me though through my gmail address which I've added.

I created my website by following a YouTube tutorial it only taking 15 minutes which amazed me; the day after I deleted my practice website and created the permanent website I now have.

This will be of absolutely no use to you s-e but intended as a bit of information for website novices.

Kind regards, Col.

They also host my office 365.

Have been very helpful to me with my endless inane questions!

Thanks col.

Most webhosts now offer a "web building package" although some can be quite limited, I really only want it for dedicated email addresses, as opposed to someone-else3637850-338yy@gmail.com

Hi,

Good to see you now sorted s-e.

Not wishing to hi-jack your thread but for those like me who are novice website builders I can recommend the following YouTube video just to get a website up and running assuming Google is used;

I watched the video a few times until I grasped the basics then wrote down each step which I followed and I was truly amazed to have my practice website up and running just as shown in the video; the day after having gained a bit of knowledge and more confidence I deleted my practice website and created the website shown at the bottom of the post; I still need to find out how to activate comments then communication can be set up but as it's free I think it's a fair attempt by me and after many previous failed attempts this time it was just so easy and also interesting. I had even bought a thick book I think called "Dream Weaver" whilst trying to create a website but two pages into this book my eyes glazed over and I quickly lost the plot. I find using my website quite useful because I can update it at will then when I email my chums I simply add the website link allowing my chums to keep up to date with my projects rather than having to keep repeating myself in the emails; playing with my website is also much more interesting than watching the rubbish put out on TV.

Should I now wishg to create a proper website with my own domain I'm sure I would have more success now I've had a bit of free practice. :huray:

Kind regards, Col.

An update.

First of all I get
Unlimited bandwidth
Unlimited storage
Unlimited email accounts
Website builder template

£36.60 p/a

I don't like templates for websites, but I have a 1 page website in 1 click. I got it for the email accounts which so far I have only set up 1.
I know they say if its too good to be true then it probably is, but they have been around for a while, and the pricing is actually more than the first webhost I had. So, it seems to be a good deal. As for what my website is, its nothing and the only page it has says "This website is still being built." (I did get it just for the email address)
