Hi evereybody,
I have started rewiring the house and plan to get the council inspector to come and inspect it once its done.
My question is: can I use 1mm or 0.75mm 2core+E from the jn box to the light and the light switch? and use the 1.5mm wire to run from the MCB to jn box to jn box. If I can that will make the job of feeding the wires easier and the jn box screws are not overflowing with fat copper wires.

What is the best way to start the rewiring? Disconnect one fuse and connect the wire to the new connection temporarily and at the end connect them all to the MCB box, or, change the fuse box to MCB first? Wont it keep on tripping the RCDs if I change the fuse box on the old wiring?

Also can I use a ceiling rose instead of jn box but keep it between the floor boards?

Cheers

Oh dear!!!

If you have started the job with 1.5 then stick with it. Its also against the regs to fit fixed wiring below 1.0mm and you wont find anything other than flex anyway.

I would do the MCB board last and temp connect the new circuits to the old fusebox but others may differ.

A ceiling rose is a ceiling rose and a junction box is a junction box use them accordingly

Most sparks dont use JB's for anything other than connecting up downlighters these days.

Good luck

If you are considering using any junction boxes for the lights you should look at these-

wagobox

If I ever do any more lighting which requires junction boxes I'll be using these!

Thanks for the mails.
I will like to use JB for the downlighters and ceiling rose for the other rooms. Thats what I was trying to ask that if I can use JB for one room and CR for the other.
For the timer for the bathroom exhaust I have used a 3 core and earth wire. Is that not legal then?
Where can I buy the Wagobox?
Cheers

Essex - please stop now and get a registered electrician to do the rewire - I'm afraid it is abundantly clear from the type of questions that you're asking that you don't know anywhere near enough to be doing a rewire.

When you notified the council about this work, what did you tell them on your request for Building Regulations approval that you would be doing in order to comply with P1? It's all very well them inspecting, but they do not provide design or installation advice, and I find it hard to believe that they would have let you go ahead if you weren't able to assure them that your work would comply.

Hi,
Thanks for yourmail. i had run the wiring diagram by the council inspector. Funnily enough he said something similar: that I do seem to know about electric but some of my questions seemed silly. I just want to make sure I do not have to change things once they are done. I have designed circuits for some hospital equipment and I do know about electrics. Asking ques here saves me going through the guidelene book.
Cheers,
J

And what's going to happen when you don't ask about something because you have absolutely no idea that it even exists, and absolutely no idea that you don't know it?
