Hi
I have a garage in my garden that is surrounded on 2 sides by a rasied garden resulting in soil to about half a metre (maybe just over). Now, the garage does have a damp proof course but I am thinking of putting concrete paths in these areas (next to the garage) I was wanting to maybe dig out and check the existing damp proof course and butt something up more suitable to the course than soil.
Now, my landscape gardener has suggested burrying a load of old rumble I have down there (next to the damp course) before he concretes. This sounds a bit cowboyish to me but he claims it will help with drainage. To me, you run the risk of putting holes in the damp proof course.
Anyway, what does everyone think? And what is the ideal way of dealing with this?

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I've been trying to upload a pic but am having problems as it's too many pixels. Tried saving it in different formats but I don't know how to change the pixels. Quite annoying.

The advice you have been given is good advice. In addition, I would lay a damp proofing membrane against the garage wall before backfilling with rubble. The rubble needs to be compacted. As he says, this will allow the water to drain away and will stop it gathering against the wall (or the membrane.)

Phil,
As Geewizz says! I might add some fibre board, after the DPM has been laid against the wall to give some movement. make sure your rubble, or 6F2 is of the right size to be able to drain.
