Hi.I need to fix the metal frame of a lampshade which has been broken. It was soldered before but the joint broke when the lamp got knocked over so I want to re solder it but have no idea which type of solder to use.Its a large drum lampshade so I think it will need something pretty strong?
Which would be best to use?
Thank you for any advice given. :-)

If you need strength you might be better of Brazing the joint, or you couls use something like easyweld- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/easyweld/index.htm

This will be stronger than solder.

I'm not sure what metal it is.it looks like the same stuff used on all lamp/light shades. Some metal that is covered in an enamel paint that the fabric of the shade goes around.

Thank you for the easyweld option but I need something thats not to difficult as I'm a single mum so I've got to do it myself.
It hasn't got to be extra strong, just enough that it won't fall apart.
Thanks for trying to help :-)
Emma

Its probably steel then, resistance welded.
Copper coated steel wire is placed in a jig, then pressure applied to the joints along with a high amperage electric current.

Best bet for you as it covered, is probably to use some araldite, a strong 2part adhesive. Roughen up the area close by, then build a bit of adhesive reinforcment around the joint.
Leave it to set properlly before fiddling with it though.

Thank you so much for your help.I've just had a quick look at the araldite and there are quite a few different ones,Would you mind telling me which would be most suitable for the job?
Thanks again
Emma

Id just use this one, build the area around it up in a couple of layers if necessary.
