Hi guys,

This is the first time I have posted on this site and I wish I had discovered it earlier, would have made my life much easier.

I have just got a simple question about what waterproof membrane I should use for my bathroom wetroom with underfloor heating.

I am redoing a job that my builder did a few years ago but he did not tank it or anything and now the grout is going the water is leaking through. I am going to take up the tiles, put down a waterproof membrane and the electric floor heating and re-tile.

Questions are what type of membrane should I use, tradenames or type will be fine. Also where is the best place for me to look to get good clear instructions (like an idiots guide) to the job involved.

Thanks

Hope you're not thinking of putting underfloor heating in the wet room.

Thanks for the advice. I think my last builder may have been a bit clueless on showers as there is electric underfloor heating under the shower cubicle at the moment. No wonder it has stopped working.

Is a half wetroom sort of half bathroom. I done have a shower tray for the shower bit of the room it is just tiled on a section of floor that is an inch lower than the rest of the room.

But there is a shower screen and door there too so the rest of the room does not get soaking like it would in a traditional wet room.

Will check out that website/

The main lesson is to get the tanking 100%, we always fiberglass the floor and up the walls, prior to the finish surface. not cheap though.

Is that the Altro stuff on the website the stuff I should use? Is that fiberglass?
Also how far up the wall do you have to go?

I don't know if you work in London but if I did the prep work and took the tiles up and cleaned it or would I find someone just to do the tanking bit for me and then I would finish off? I suppose this could invalidate any guarentee if I did the tiling.

We used to ply everything, and set the waste/gully in the center, and test it with a hose pipe.

The fibreglass tanking completely seals the area, after that you can can tile in the normal way, or anything else that takes your fancy as it's only decorative.

There are loads of specialists on the net so try a few for price.

Why not?

I've got underfloor heating in my wet room. I don't have any problems with it. Can't see a problem if it were electric either.
