Comodo will automatically update itself, but I'd run a manual update every so often to be safe. I think you've got everything covered with the software you've got. Secunia could be useful as a check every now and then to make sure you have the latest versions of your software, but if you do install I'd configure it so it doesn't automatically load on boot. To do this, choose the Advanced option (top right of the screen), go to the Settings tab and untick "Start the Secunia PSI on boot". Make sure you've got Windows Updates set to Automatic as well. You can access these settings via Control Panel -> Windows Update

reading your post:

The top three that you referred to in James Langs post are not what you want.

He mentions Comodo Firewall which does not include any antivirus if you only use the firewall.
The FREE versions SAS and Malwarebytes do NOT provide any real-time protection and need updating manually. So you need to know what you are going to use.

Comodo Internet Security includes the firewall, antivirus program, antispyware and antirootkit software. Updates are usually automatic but, as Rich says, worth checking weekly to make sure. Set the AV scanner for a scan once a week.

For further real-time antispyware protection, download and use Microsoft Windows Defender which, if you have Windows Updates set to "auto" or to "inform but do not download" will let you know everytime there is an update. Under Tools -> Options, set it to run a scan once a week.

SAS and MBAM will do for backup scanning on a weekly basis, but you must run the manual updater first.

Secunia will not do anything to protect your computer, it just informs you of any out of date security program, or any that needs updating. To get involved with it is not much use if you do not know what info it offers, and it can cause you to panic thinking you are at risk when you are not.

I may have misread something, but although Jame's URL starts . it takes you to a site where you can download Comodo Internet Security. This includes Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Rootkit & Bot protection.
I wouldn't bother with further real-time protection as competing real-time products can interfere with each other's operation. I would advise having a single real-time product for each protection type, but by all means have additional products, e.g. SAS and MBAM for manual scans every now and again as a sanity check.

Hi Rich,
I just didn't want diyguys downloading and installing just the firewall and thinking that he is protected with an antivirus program.

I have the free version of CIS Premium which includes AV, Firewall and Defense+ but not a specific realtime antispyware, that is why I use Win Def alongside the CIS.

Thanks rich ,well spotted dave very grateful ,removed the comodo firewall and downloaded the one you recommended ,so do i keep the superantispyware and the malwarebytes, what else do i need cheers.

Yes, keep SAS and MBAM.
Also get the Windows defender.

It is saying i have it already when i downloaded, came with vista,so what do i need to do every day or week regarding all of these, thanks again.

For CIS, set the AV scanner.
Open CIS -> click Antivirus -> Scheduled Scans -> Weekly Virus Scanning -> Edit -> Set Profile to 'My Computer'.
Select a day and time for scanning, that is convenient to you when you have the computer on, a scan will take about 20 minutes, -> click Apply.
Then go to Scanner Settings -> Ensure slider is on 'Stateful'.
Click Apply.


For Windows Defender just set Windows Updates to either 'download and install' or 'inform me when updates are available but do not download and install'.


For both SAS and MBAM, you will have to open them by double clicking the shortcut or selecting in Start -> All Programs, then click to update each one and run a quick scan after updates.

It is best to run then on different days, say SAS on Tuesday and MBAM Friday, so that each one is run just once a week.
Then have your CIS scan on a Sunday and Win Def on a Thursday.

if you type AVG 2011 free editon there should be the entire protection for free including virus protection spy bot protection the entire lot i got it a few weeks back you have to do alot of updates but the service is free so it is worth it.

Use AVG free only if you want to slow your computer down.

Not having tried the 2011 they have have sorted the problem out but I doubt it. 2/10
