Q-max cutter, small as you can get, nice clean hole.

I assume you suggest me here guys to cut square or diamond since i have the pattern? I don't know, the holes will be big so i think i would simply drill 8x8mm holes. But after the drilling, holes will look serrated and ugly. Is there a way to make them look nice? Like installing plastic rings in them (i have no idea what i am imagining here) or maybe use a sand tape to at least "polish" the serrrated holes?

If you think thats what you need to do, i would remove the metal, cover the outside with masking tape, and mark out a nice neat pattern/grid Some plastics can crack if you push too hard, so use a nice sharp bit. I would drill from the outside out of ease, wont make much difference.

I don't understand why to cover outside with masking tape. I understand that covering ceramics is logical though.

you have a low energy bulb fully enclosed to stop light but give out heat??
if you ventilate you are reducing the heat output and increasing the light output?

if this is the case then its badly designed and thought out but off course you know that

 Now i understood this as i was reading it second time.

Still not decided in regards to lighting. I was offered bulb 2 times the standard cost but with 3-year warranty. I just wonder how bulb will operate after holes are drilled and convection is established. What if bulb will get burned often? The dealer will notice this and ask how can 3 year warramty bulb burn that often. He will refuse to replace since such lamps should work 3 years.

Or i can buy half price standard bulb like i did first time with 15W bulb that burned which is more than a 9W bulb that came in a non-operational condition with the aquarium. This one however is 9W but does not have warranty.

What do you suggest guys i should do?

Thanks.

which company manufactured the aquarium?

go on their website and see what they recomend?

my fish's house doesnt have holes in the top. it gets a bit warm. but it doesnt bother the bulbs and doug and patty dont seem bothered by it either.

id say before you drill any holes find what the correct spec bulb is. that way youll know that research has been done to make sure its not gonna get too hot and potentially harm your fish

I installed 15W earlier because it was the bulb with lowest wattage in store which burned. The company name is Hyundai and model is TEVA Series:

But at this time i want to buy 9W which is a standard for this aquarium.

Guys the dealer replaced 15W bulb with 11W bulb. Will there be significant difference in heating with 2W increase compared to 9W? I thought maybe it will be not critical so i need not to drill holes in lid.

have a bash and see what happens. if it was to burn out its only a bulb. and better than having a fish tank lid full of holes.

Hello fin. What do you mean by "bash"? To have a try?

You know maybe i should measure temperature inside compartment if it will help at all?

Fin, i want to point out that when i first received aquarium the reflector (aluminum plate) was already burned along with 9W bulb not to mention that almost half of bulb's compartment was full of water. Was it overheating that burned bulb or water that reached ballast i don't know but please see this picture:

Image

What do you think? Should i drill holes? For lid to look less uglyer i think i could use sandpaper to polish sharp edges of holes and maybe glue white sticky paper rings above in case i have appropriate diameter?

Do you know how to disassemble this bulb's socket?
