I saw this gadget and thought t was a good idea for £24.

Has anyone tried one or have any experience or views whether they are worth a punt? http://techiefans.com/is-your-own-car-o ... 122sh4eu28

Cheers

Seen it advertised before they showed it in a wallet (like they have here) but how long will the battery last. I am not saying its of no use, just too gimmicky for me, if you were that worried about your car you could buy a PAYG phone, connect it to 12v on your car and set its security options to allow you to track it, battery will never go flat.

If you didn't know a Samsung phone (don't know about others) has an option to allow you to track it, wipe it, make it ring (even if its silent) and its all free.

Presumably it has a signal and power strength indicator so you can see it on your phone app but power supply is a consideration. I thought it was cheap enough as a back up after having a car stolen a couple f years back I might have been able to guide the Police to the car?

P.S. It think that is useful place to store the picture posting link SE. I copied and pasted it the other day as I knew where it was.

You know what they say.........if its too good to be true it probably is, well,
I bet you did not read the small print.

Please Note - This is a Bluetooth tracker with Crowd GPS technology and not a GPS Tracker to use in the real time

It seems that if some one with bluetooth and GPS switched on on their phone and they walk past your device (and your device is "in Lost" mode) then it will contact you to say where the device is, other than that it will only work in clear air space of 75 feet max.

Save your money.

I have since found a quite a few reviews, I liked this one the best.

I totally agree with all the comments, TrackR is a piece of rubbish that is well marketed. I tried out two last July around the same room in my house and they were not easy to locate any way reliably. Every now and then I run up the app on my phone and I haven't changed my mind. I'm a bit surprised they gave 3 stars for performance. These things are still being strongly marketed and I think they should downgrade the review.

The best thing you can buy is a GPRS tracker from GearBest. They're not expensive but I think they're delivered by camel.

I bought one last year for a guy who worked for me. Every time I showed up on site he wasn't there but miraculously showed up ten minutes later. I suspected one of his colleagues was covering for him and texting him to let him know I was here. When he showed up his story was always 'oh I had to pop round to my mums as she fell' or some other lame excuse.

I stuck this GPRS thingy to the bottom of his car (probably illegal). About an hour later he left the site and went to an address a couple of miles away. He was there for a couple of hours and then came back on site. The next day I casually asked him if there had been any problems to which he said 'no'. I then asked him why he had been off site at an address for 2 hours when he should have been at work. Boy he was speechless  A final written warning made sure he hasn't done it again :thumbright:

I can be a sneaky cad at times. :-)

Thanks SE, they are not worth having according to that. Thanks for checking it out, I will give it a miss. :thumbright:

@Argyll Blimey, that must have been embarrassing for him  I just had a look at http://www.gearbest.com/tracker-gps-_gear/ Some very interesting, and cheap kit there.

This is the one I bought:

http://www.gearbest.com/car-gps-tracker/pp_320284.html

But it requires an active sim card. The first one I received didn't work so they sent a replacement. delivery takes bloody ages though.

I stuck magnets to the bottom of it using gorilla glue.
