Hi.

New user and complete DIY idiot!

I had a leaking toilet pan repaired about a year ago and after everytime we flush the pipes made an horrific noise reminicent of a fog horn!...

Plumber comes and replaces parts inside the toilet - Problem fixed - NO!

Now the toilet no longer does this instead the noise has transfered. If i flush then put on the hot tap then i get the same noise. The washine machine when it hits a certain point in the cycle makes the house shudder!

Air in the pipes? Water Hammer? (i have done a bit of looking on the net)...

Today i bled the air out of the radiator in the bathroom and re pressurised the combi boiler....i then checked the same radiator and for some reason more air came out when i bled it again! Why was there again air in there and is this casuing the problem with the noisy pipes? (i again repressurised the combi). It soesnt seem to have made a differance bleeding the radiator.

Please Help
Thanks

Mat :thumbright:

:welcomeuhm: The noise is usually due to mains pressure either being arrested suddenly or commonly vibration set up due to a worn ball valve/tap or stop valve washer. Check your main stop valve to ensure it is fully open first to see if that makes a difference.

Central Heating radiators bleeding is a different problem not associated with the above.

Possibly but how did the plumber turn off the water to the toilet? Best have your main stop valve looked at though - you never know when you might need it.

What kind of valve have you got in the cistern? Plastic ones tend to play up more than metal ball valves.

Have you got any mixer taps or similar where the cold mains could be working its way into the hot system?
