Hi,
stripped the nasty vinyl paper off the walls of my 3 bed semi. Now left with wall paper paste set like concrete and not shifting with steam. Also some flaky paint. Was hoping to rub down with sand paper, key up with blade then neat PVA left to dry followed by 1:3 mix left till tacky then skim on! will this work or does the paste have to come off no matter what?
(if some top coat plaster has blown off the backing do I need to fill it or can it be filled by the skim coats?
If I make a mess of it I'll drag it off and get a plasterer in, any ideas of price for re-skim 3 bed semi only two lids and 20 walls? (based in Epping)
thanks everyone.

I live in Pomey area and for our bedrooms there going for about 200, if you need ceiling its 300 for a good sized bedroom, My bathroom is only tiny and thats costing me 180 not including the ceiling, but be careful trying to do it yourself without the right advice as my hubby did our dining room and its cracked

A colleague paid about £500 for a room to be plastered/skimmed. Apparently it is hard to get a plasterer at short notice in his area. I'm paying a bit more for my house, but as part of a larger job by a building firm, and I think that costs more than employing a plasterer directly (middle man cut).
I might add that the house I bought recently has some patches from the floor to knee height on walls around the bathroom (flood damage?) and they are not exactly neat. I am using Gyproc to smooth the joins. So make sure you get someone who can do a decent job.

paste can be dealt with easily by putting WBA on it
