Cost of installing a velux window

Post by sammy.se »

Hi

What is the rough cost of having a velux window fitted in a loft (it's not habitable, it's used for storage)?

It's a two floor terraced Victorian house.

Can it be installed without scaffolding?

Thanks

I'm trying to get a couple installed in my upstairs (my house is a 1 & 1/2 story). If no timbers need to be cut then you are looking at a days work, work can be done from the inside. If timbers need to be doubled and cut you are maybe looking at 2 days.

All I can say is don't call a roofer ... I have had a couple out but they will not do any alterations (but won't tell you that up front), find a good joiner and have a chat.

Thanks ahfix.

I'm curious as to how they remove the roof tiles from the inside?

Depends on the roof construction, if your roof is: felt, cross battens then tile, you can cut the felt in the middle of the opening and remove a few tiles, enough for you to pop your head through. If the roof has sarking boards it might be a bit more of a challenge but still possible. Otherwise a long ladder to clear the tiles for the opening but do the actual install of the velux from the inside.
