Hi All
I am planning on building a decking (approx 3x4M) in the back yard accessed from patio doors. Currently I have an ad hoc step to get down into the garden(no steps there when I bought the house) so plan to step down onto the patio. I was thinking I could build it over what is already there (flags, grass) I will add a picture of the area(currently too big to load)
I have not built one before has anyone got any handy hints/tips before I start ?
If I use wooden boards do they become slippy after a while(I have never had a wooden decking) ?

Yes, don't do it, decks are a pain. They require continual maintenance and they are a slip hazard when wet. A few years down the line you have a massive bonfire to get rid of them. Far better to bite the bullet and get the patio levels sorted and slabbed professionally.

That will probably raise it to being too close to the dpc in the house wall, it needs to be 150mm below that.ahll wrote: I was thinking I could build it over what is already there (flags, grass) I will add a picture of the area(currently too big to load)
One day it will all be firewood.

Disagree with DWD, Maintenance on my deck at a previous property consisted of cleaning every spring, re-staining every 3/4 years or so.
Agree with Ayjay about the height issue though.
