Securing CCTV onto junction box cover

Post by sh44 »

Hi,
I have seen many CCTV installations where the camera is secured onto the external junction box, with the cables then hidden behind inside the box.

My question is - What is the best way of securing the camera to the junction box cover? As it is only plastic, are there any specific techniques/screws which should be used to ensure the camera doesn't come loose?

Junction box which would be used is something like this - https://www.screwfix.com/p/schneider-el ... 55mm/91344

Thanks for any help :thumbleft:

It depends on the camera hikvision dome cameras have an optional back box or mounts

If there a standard bullet camera imho it needs mounting on a solid surface

:withstupid:

Any cameras with a JB behind as a mounting plate the JB/mounting plate is normally a dedicated unit for that camera/system.

If a bullet camera or a dome camera at least in home cctv then the feed wires can easily be hidden if that is what you are asking...

A camera mounted on a JB looks what it is, naff. Not to mention that fact that the box is now no longer water resistant as it was.
Mount the camera and box on the wall close to each other is the best option.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Thanks for your replies :)

They're not the Hikvision ones which have the additional junction box at the back. These are standard bullet/turret cameras.

Agreed, it is best to install close to the JB. However, I was asking regarding this option as it is a way to offset the camera from the wall to achieve better angles (in some cases). Not sure if there are any other ways to offset the camera from the wall and have it protrude a little bit without mounting onto a junction box?
