Making the cord length on a light pendant longer
Hi everyone
I have a property with a high ceiling. There are existing light pendants with a long cord but they are old, discoloured and tatty. I would like to replace them with some new pendants
I initially bought these items from screwfix
this cable 2 core 1.5mm which in the comments someone said they used it for the same purpose I intended.
and these Pendants with the view, to remove the existing cable from these new pendants and use the newly bought cable to lengthen the pendant
(i.e. remove the existing cable from new pendants giving a separate ceiling rose and bulb holder and then use the new cable cut to the correct size to reconnect the ceiling rose and bulb holder creating a new longer light pendant.
Problem is the cable will not fit through the hole on the ceiling rose or the top of the bulb holder. It goes in about 1.5mm but that’s it.
Question: What is the correct cable I need to buy to get the cable to pass snuggly but easily through the ceiling rose and bulb holder, or what pre made pendant will have a slightly larger hole for the cable to pass through.
Thanks

Re: Making the cord length on a light pendant longer
You don't need 1.5mm flex for a pendant.
You can use 1mm or 1.5mm T & E to supply the lights / ceiling rose, (Perhaps that is where you got the 1.5mm from?)
But the flex from the rose to the pendant lamp holder is usually 0.75mm twin. Example

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

0.75mm 2 core round is all you need, I spent the best part of a week making up roses (many moons ago) some of them with 3m drops (klik style roses)
the cable through the rose doesn't need to be snug as the cable is secured and goes around the roses strain relief hooks (some also come with a cable clip)

I always found CEF to be expensive.
You can get it from all the usual suspects it's your choice. e.g. Toolstation, Screwfix, TLC direct, local electrical wholesaler, DIY shop, DIY superstore
It doesn't have to be round you can get oval too.
Failing that Click here

Re: Making the cord length on a light pendant longer
Thanks Folks
I was hoping for an exact match in diameter for the cable removed from the pre-made pendants
I found it online (Code 3182Y) at least I think I have, some retailers sell the item as(1.0mm² 3182Y 2 Core Flexible PVC cable, White )
Screwy Fix has it as this(3182Y 2-CORE 1.5MM² X 10M WHITE
So one is 1mm and the other 1.5mm
Its annoying that the codes cannot be consistent.
I hate paying postage from an online retailer where the postage cost is far in excess of the product cost so I will go with this from screwy fix
As suggested by someone-else
Lets call this closed
Cheers
