Ceiling light pull to pir sensor???

Advice please, switched door hinges around in bathroom after changing rad which means light pull is wrong side now. House built in 80's. What wiring can I expect inside the pull switch and will it allow a pir sensor to be fitted into the same space without needing extra wiring. Here's hoping, thanks ian

You’ll need a neutral for the pir but I wouldn’t expect one to be there, possibly only live and switched live.
Depending on how the circuit is wired though you may be lucky and find a neutral linked in the back plate.

As said, you will never know what is actually there until you look.

You could screw in a couple of eye bolts and extend the pull cord string, or move the light switch.

Can I pick the neutral up from the light being switched if there are only two live wires in the pull switch?

Yes. But if you do that you may as well take the live and earth as well, or even better do away with the existing switch. (If you don't disconnect the switch it will cause problems)

I got a PIR bulb on Amazon for a couple of quid, it came direct from China. I had got it for my front door light as often my car 'go home' lights do not last long enough for me to fiddle about undoing the mortice lock and the latch. Of course, I got a bayonet bulb and when I took the lamp cover off it was a bloody Edison screw in thread type needed. So rather than waste the bulb it I put it in our utility room and it is fine although on dark winter days it is still not dark enough to trip it so it does not work so well in the day.

Perfect for night use though as soon as you walk in it clicks on and then goes off when you leave. No click clack noise in the night to disturb anyone.

If you use the bulb idea then you still need the pull for some occasions but in the main you leave it on permanently and the PIR in the lamp does the work turning off and on. An easy way to do it.

That would do it SE, but space is tight in the cover, I will order an Edison threaded one when I get around to it.

While you are waiting to get the adaptor, DWD, did you know that on most cars you can go in to the set-up menu and adjust the length of time the lights stay on?

Oops, no I did not know that, thanks for that Arco. I will have a look at the handbook and see how to find the setting.
