Dewalt XR logo

Post by etaf » Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:21 pm

Hi

With my son-in-law and he just purchased a dewalt 5AH battery, but the logo is different to the ones i have seen online

We are in the UK

heres a picture of the logo on the battery which as i say is different from all other images on line

is this a genuine product , and old batch , or a US import ??
I'm planning to also purchase battery 5AH and wondered if i should go to power tool world (my son used) or FFX, where i have recently purchased a few tools

Brilliant , thankyou so much for the quick response , good to know

all seem much higher than that
powertoolsworld £58 - FFX £115 for 2

I was hoping to get one around the £50 mark

what you have to keep in mind is prices are often changing even within a specific company
you can get prices going both up and down even varring week on week
the best prices may only be available for a short while with the best prices moving to another retailer as a "better deal" on a short time basis as a promotion is worked out between company rep and retailer
at present with dewalt batteries
4ah=40-44
5ah=50-55
6ah= 86-90
but as i say you may have to wait say 4 weeks to get the extra 10% off and it can be as i say from many sources but usually at the bottom price one source maybe two

Thanks for the explanation and the link to a recommended company

How useful is a 6AH hour battery for a DIYer - do you only get the extra run time or does it impact the torque

In my intro i list the tools i have (jigsaw circular saw), I'm thinking of getting an angle grinder (DCG405FN) and perhaps the 1/2" impact driver.
I have STIHL Products for the garden, chain saw, streamer etc , so no need for the power for those type of tools

angle grinder eats batteries :lol:
i would get 2x4ah rather than a six so 8ah for a similar price to a 6ah
would only suggest 6ah if you fancy the 54v option
the angle grinder uses up to around 900w input with an output off 800w
1 ah amp hour is 18wx60= 1080w so 5ah=5400w
so on full load the angle grinder would last perhaps 6 mins but more likely to be around half an hour plus as you wont be cutting thick steel for ages on end
https://products.dewalt.co.uk/powertool ... /DCG405FN/
the battery is the fuel tank and the voltage is the engine

thats very interesting on life on an angle grinder, , thanks - so no extra torque then .
i currently have 2x 3ah and 2x 2ah
The 54V are quite expensive

a little more research then needed before I buy any batteries - I expected (perception) a few hours with the grinder, use for cutting paving stones, sharpening lawnmower blade type of stuff

yes you will be fine with say 2x5ah batteries as the charge rate for one will be similar to the rate you will probably run it down so one on charge one in use :thumbright:

your choice really
if you have a few smaller batteries then 2x4ah may be fine
but i would tend to go for what ones gave you better value if 4ah are say £44 and 5ah are £50 then the 5ah
if the 4ah are say £40 and the 5ah are £55 then the 4ah

thanks , i have a think about that tonight
you must be psychic, prices almost spot on
so you would go 4AH with the tool set I have, and that i already have 2x 3A its would still be worth the investment, even if i just get a corded angle grinder .... all still thinking about

i have researched the batteries quite a bit for most off last year but not a lot for about 3 months as the problem was resolved so had a good idea but notice yesterday most had jumped by about 10%
as in 5ah from £50-55 and 4ah from £40-44 and 6ah from £88-97 with any at the lower price probably old stock without increases factored in

the one my son-in-law got Friday was New 2018 stock £58 from Powertoolworld , with a 2018 date stamp, he actually contacted them as well and they replied saturday re the logo change and that they had a dispatched 2019 versions at that price

i understand the battery and electronics is no different though

is the 6AH flexivolt only 54V/18V - not a bad price then
