DIY doorbell chime

Post by Suzi123 »

I know I'm probably going to take some flack for this but got rid of the old chime without taking note of the positioning of the wires. Both are double white wires and there is an external transformer near the fuse box. 2 of the wires spark when near eachother, guessing that's the live one but can't work out which way round to put them. Also new door chime given to me has an internal transformer, will this be n issue as the external one is there as well?
Thanks in advance for any help

Pictures would help or a link to the new doorbell.

From what you have so far written, you can NOT use your new doorbell where the old one was..........
The reason being the twin figure8 white wire you have is called "doorbell wire" and it would be dangerous to put mains through it.

(As for two transformers, one has to go)

You can of course re wire everything, but as I first said pictures would help.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

 If gloom had a voice, it would be me.
