kinked copper pipe

hi all,

I was attempting to install my new shower valve. the actual install went ok. I had a small leak so I naturally tightened the nut. it seemed I overtightened it and the olive compressed or kinked the pipe slightly. can I carry on with the install or will this cause an issue?

im breaking for lunch now

I think I would try undoing the nut and wrapping a load of PTFE tape around the olive and re tightening. If you really feel it is buggered then now is the time to cut out a section and replace the pipe and start over. It is the danger of over tightening. We have all done it.

I think that you should pipe slice that off and put in a fresh section of pipe. It looks like you have enough room. I always wrap a couple of times around the olive and tighten half a turn more when it gets stiff. It allows a little more of a turn if it weeps.

hi DWD, I tried above, no luck! still leaking.

ive attached a photo of the valve installed. if i splice the ends as you advised above, i doubt it would reach to connect to the inlets of the valve.

Cut the pipe off below the bend and start again with a new bend etc.

There's only one way to do a job like this and it's to do it properly. If you leave it and it starts leaking......
