Decking posts

Post by Gun7h3r »

Hi All,

I am going to be fitting some raised decking for my brother in law. It is a large area, 5.5m by 7.5m. How far apart should I lay the posts? I was thinking 1m per post but not sure if that is too close?

Thanks in advance

Do you mean the joists?

Either 400 or 600mm centres are the norm

Ok, 1 metre should suffice then. I did a similar job recently and had 4 posts postcreted in over 4.2m. Solid as a rock.

I am going to put a ledger bolted to the outside of the wall. Do you think 18 posts will be enough? 3 rows of 6 from the wall ?

Because of the size what would you suggest would be the best way to lay the joists?

That should suffice yes.

If the boards are thick enough then 600 centres should be ok.
