swann cctv help please can i cut cable !!!!

Post by paul777 »

hello please can you help
just bought 2 CCTV cameras swann
these are WiFi just power lead needed
but the camera is also attached to the Ethernet connection box
tested cameras all working fine now for a week but
its time to attach them to the out side wall but
this Ethernet is a little bit to big i think i`ll need like a 20mm drill bit
to drill the hole up a ladder ammm don't know !
so my question is i don't really need it so can i cut it off
so i only have to drill maybe a 10mm hole if not less to pass the power cord though
i do understand by cutting this cable my warranty is gone
thank you paul

Yes you can cut the cable off, if you really must.
Have you not thought of drilling from inside to out? (no ladder required for this bit.)
I would also suggest that you cut it off at least 3 feet from the camera, that way you can poke it through the wall and join it inside. How are you going to join it?
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

link to the item you have ?

is there a short cable coming out of the camera for the ethernet and power (known as a pigtail) if this is the case the company usually sells a mounting back box that you can put the cables in

Do Not cut anything !! there is no need too

Edit. worse ways you can use a ip rated box to put the connections in

eg. https://www.screwfix.com/p/british-gene ... 65mm/33991

assuming you a decent quality hammer drill a 20/22mm hole through double skin wall isn't actually that hard. When I was installing my CCTV i bought a 22 mm long masonry bit and it took all of 15 minutes. drill slightly upward if doing from the outside, slightly downwards if from inside. use an offcut of copper or plastic pipe to run through and bridge the cavity whilst you run the cable through.
