Minimum space between planed square edge floorboards
Hi
I have a room of about 3.5m x 3m on the first floor and am restoring the floorboards, however there is an area roughly 1m x 1.5m floorboards are damaged as they have been removed and put back for whatever reason. I can't get the exact height and size t&g floorboards so I have to do with planed square edged boards which is fine with me. My question: what is the minimum space to allow between these new boards? Nearly touching boards will do? I want to avoid the gap between boards scenario.
The plan is then to sand down the whole room and apply oil.

Re: Minimum space between planed square edge floorboards
You don't want any space between floorboards, they'll shrink a fair bit anyway once they've been down for a few days.
New timber floorboards should ideally be T&G and well cramped together when laying.
If the size of board available doesn't neatly fit the width you want to fill, you have to cut the last board down until it does.

One day it will all be firewood.

Existing T&G boards are redwood 18mm height, 110mm width (think its called finished width), I can't find the same. I have seen them in white wood which are of poor quality and won't match. Any one know where to buy 18mm t&g redwood floorboards?

Packs of 4* - 22mm but you are going to sand anyway.
* When I had occasion to use them, not for flooring, I bought numerous packs, sorted out the less-knotted planks, carefully rewrapped the remainder in pallet wrap & took them back for refund. Made a really nice worktop, oiled, still use it daily.

I have seen similar, isn't 4mm a lot to sand off? I am using belt sander.arco_iris wrote:Try Wickes 124000?yartin wrote:Any one know where to buy 18mm t&g redwood floorboards?

Sorted! My local timber merchant will machine them for me their redwood floorboards from 22mm to 18mm.
There is always a snag though, boards are 113mm mines are 110m width, I think it should be fine. All damaged boards are together so may need to trim last one.
