installing Concrete Lawn Edge

Hi

Just ordered Concrete round top path edgings of 915mm x 150mm x 50mm each, only for part of the lawn in my garden of about 7m in length.
I need a simple way to install them. Is it OK to dig the soil to where I want to and place the the edgings in soil? So they are held in the soil and won't go anywhere.

You can do what you like, lay 'em bare in the soil and as you say "they won't go anywhere". WHEN they do, you dig 'em up and re-lay.

The proper way would be to dig a small footing, shovel in some concrete (ballast/cement mix) then set the edgings in a mortar (or fine ballast) mix, this will last longer.

Laid in soil they will definitely move. I'd always lay them in such a way that the grass level is level with the top of the concrete so you can now over them and no need for Strimming. Always going to be neater and easier. Although you've gone for round top.

I will need to dig the soil and think it's going to be difficult to make it level as it is,sand will make life easier, any harm in using sand under the concretes? Any sand will do?

ps. I have put wooden sleepers in soil and hasn't moved for the last four years, I put shingles and then sleepers.

Sleepers weigh more than concrete edges, that's why they haven't moved

If you are going to use sand, you might as well mix some cement in with it. And use ballast instead of the sand!

I suggest that you get a few bags of Postfix, use it all dry, and it will set by the moisture in the soil over a few days.

I can lay them upside down to get flat level with lawns but always need strimmer as grass grow sideways plus round tops look good.

Each to their own, I prefer the flat top. Using dry post fix is a good call, they're solid straight away.

The lawn looks bad this, Is it right time of the season to scarify? evergreen?

You scarify in the spring (I am not sure scarifying would help it much though).
Evergreen? Is that Green paint or something Too late for sooper dooper fertilisers as well.

I will keep cement and sand for other works around the house.
