sugar levels not quite what you expect

Post by big-all »

like most people having trouble getting the exact fizzy drink regularly
i drink irn bru sugar free for years recently now 90% asda own iron brew not exactly the same but the saving every two or three weeks will buy a litre bottle off whisky so a good compromise
any way to the point asdas iron brew not available so choose zero orange squash instead
now check the label 1.1g per 250ml or 4.4g per litre or a spoonful off sugar so not quite zero
but perfectly legal because you can claim zero below a certain level
any way as i drink between 2and 3 litres off pop a day thats a lot off sugar i dont need

No added sugar, the 1.1 gram per 250ml will be natural fruit sugar (fructose)

Mrs. W~o is furious that due to the "fat tax" aka "sugar tax" her occasional lemonade (for her pimms) and her occasional ginger ale (for her Rum) now contain less sugar and have added artificial sweeteners, she would be happy to pay more for a full fat/sugar version, but all the manufacturers seem to be going down the route of less sugar and artificial sweeteners...

And why ? because of all the fatties in the country. (mrs W~o is a size 12)

But how safe are these artificial sweeteners though, will the use of them build up health problems for the future. :dunno:

Nobody really knows do they. (Said he drinking sugar free orangeade )
Taking the sugared option away is typical "Nanny State" stuff though.
I'm getting really sick of being told more and more what I can and can't have.
I can make my own mind up what to eat, drink and buy.

I reckon these artificial sweeteners are causing havoc on the diabetes figures.

Fooling your body into thinking it has had a load of sugar means you produce insulin to 'combat' the sugar intake when you haven't actually had any.....
Don't take it personally......

I try and avoid both sugar and sweetner, I think they are both awful.

Me too, and fizzy drinks of any description, I just don't understand their popularity.

I drink tea, coffee, orange juice, (with breakfast) beer, (not fizzy stuff though) wine and a very occasional single malt, what else does anyone need?
One day it will all be firewood.

fizzy pop is a bit off a misnomer
i have always reduced the amount off fizz to about 25% so call it flat pop with a bit off fizz added
i now since my bowel cancer 4 years ago remove perhaps 90% by transferring half roughly to one bottle then the other half to another bottle then re-combing roughly again in the origional bottle
the reason for the faffing about is irn bru is only cheap and available in fizzy version and you need a bit off fizz to get the full taste :huray:

I used to drink a lot of Irn Bru but I invested in a sodastream a couple of years ago and just use diluting orange with it. I quite like it.

The Irn Bru factory is only a couple of miles from me.

Being a Type 2 diabetic means that I have to watch sugar content although everything turns to glucose in due course. The body regulates the blood sugar level with insulin and if it is slow to put out insulin then that is Type 2. Type 1 is where no insulin is produced so you have to inject.

So watching sugars means a Type 2 copes better and where necessary Metformin helps remove some glucose levels. I find cakes and the like far too sweet and I had a sip of McD milkshake and it was horrendously sweet. I drink diet drinks but I have always wondered if they are harming me. I guess it is the least of my health worries now.
