The west facing gable of my rustic brick single skin garage gets a real blasting all year round and the mortar is completely shot. It was repointed in the past but I am now thinking of rendering it. I had two plasterers round to give me a quote but am confused. One said it needed a breathable finish, the other a waterproof one.
Any advice would be greatly received.
Which plaster finish is suitable for a single skin garage?

either works, a gypsum based render treated with a waterproofing agent might be ok, a lime render (breathable) won't care what the weather throws at it... within reason.
