Bay Window Roof

Post by Handy Trev »

I'm in the throws of sorting this window-corner-leaks-when-raining-t94144.html out and found the ridges (is that the right term?) are sitting on very crumbly lime mortar :wtf:

What are my options here? Something tells me re-mortaring them to slate and lead isn't very smart, or maybe it is?

That is exactly what you need to do. Carefully remove and clean off all the existing ridges and rebed them using a morter of 3:1 builders sand/cement.. At each ridge tile joint you need to fill the void under the joint with broken pieces of tile bedded on mortar. When all are bedded, tidy the joints with a pointing trowel.

Ok, thanks for this. When you sat "fill the void under the joint with broken pieces of tile" is that roof slate or something similar?
