Leaking Toilet

I noticed yesterday that my downstairs toilet has water running into the pan? its only a small amount, now when I took the lid off the cistern there isn't any water running into the overflow, any ideas?

It is letting by the flush valve. A photo would help us advise on how to deal with it as there are many flush mechanisms.

its a bit of lime or grit stuck in the flush valve, depending on the make you can twist the head and remove it to clean it, Tbh a few good flushes cures it most times

Yes, i agree with the above.

Though just to mention another less likely possibility - in some cases there can be two overflows; the old/traditional one (e.g. to outside) may be left there when a newer down-the-pan type is put in. So in that case, water not going down the old overflow doesn't necessarily mean its not going down the new one into the pan.

Looking at that I now think that the inlet valve is letting by. Often the washer has to be cleaned or replaced. The big blue nut with hand grip ridges (top of the picture) has to be undone (water off) to take this out for service or replacement. Before doing as DWD suggests I would remove that blue nut that has fallen to the bottom of the cistern from somewhere.

It is probably stopping the valve closing properly'

thanks DWD and Wine~o how embarrassing that you saw that from the picture and i didn't spot that when i took the picture.

looks like a Torbeck fill valve and a Fluidmaster flush valve - turn the water off to the cistern and flush it you should be able to get your fingers in the gap at the bottom - get someone to push/hold the button and you should be able to feel/clean the seal

So far as I can tell B Gatty has sorted the issue by removing the nut that was stopping the flush mech closing
