What insurance 'Industry' group is a handyman in?

Post by Kev888 »

Trying to get some quotes for van insurance; all the websites will accept self-employed handyman as my job, but then go on to ask what industry it is in. They have industry groups that it must be one of, but don't tell you what the options are... just that whatever I try to offer isn't a recognised one! ::b

What Insurance 'industry' do handymen on here find works for them?

EDIT: just got 'maintenance services' to work, though don't know if this is the best option for lowest quotes

Thanks!
Kev

I think mine is under "Property Maintenance / repair ? general handyman" or similar.

I'm with Trade direct and have found them competitive especially for a start-up. (10 years ago)

Thanks! Thats very helpful.

It looks like the alteration to my current car policy is only a tiny amount more (perhaps because it hasn't got long left to run, and perhaps because the van is a lot more sedate than my car was). A bit of a wobble over the (hand-held) torch gas cylinder and 1gallon can of petrol, but they've decided the quantities aren't significant enough to prevent the quote. So I'll go with just the alteration for now, and then shop around before it expires.

Thanks for the tradedirect insurance link too, they look very potential. I want to get public liability insurance in any case, and perhaps tools in transit too depending on how much.

thanks again
