best methods of cutting laminate flooring

Post by markmh »

hi

i need some advice on the best saw for cutting laminate, i have previously used hand saws which took a very long time and a jig saw which i found difficult when try to get long straight cuts.

so im thinking either a table saw probably the titan one at screwfix or mini circular saw either a titan or worx.

thanks

I used my track saw for both rip and cross cuts, worked well.

To be honest I've rarely used anything other than a handsaw . Laminate is at best 12mm thick and it's as quick to cut by hand than it is to faff around with power tools. If your heart is set on power tools and you have a long thin room then perhaps a small circular saw with a fine blade would be of use for the rippings.

you need a jigsaw and a fret saw for any curves or scribes any way
the chances off a cut edge being dead strait along a wall is will be nearly zero
i always use a jigsaw as you can cut across the plank at floor level on a low surface or cut to a scribe line outside or where sawdust is easy to control

Oh yeah I forgot that the scribe/cutouts etc I did on my bandsaw, not very portable though

I use a table saw at home. One of my best purchases ever.

Brought mine from Amazon.

For crosscutting a guillotine cutter is faster, quieter and makes far less mess than any saw. For detail cuts I use a combination of an Exakt saw and a jigsaw with Bosch laminate blades (e.g. T101BIF, etc) which both cut cleaner and last longer than non-laminate equivalents
