Good paintbrushes, rollers and other equipment

The wife wants me to paint the small bedroom. It's already been papered and painted over by the previous owners. I plan to just paint a couple of layers of bog standard white paint over the top.

What are good brands or types for brushes and rollers?
Is there anything else worth buying?

At some point in the future, I'll need to paint two bedrooms and a bathroom so I thought some good quality equipment would be better than the likes of what I can buy from B&Q.

The best you can get is probably Purdy but they're not cheap

Nour roller covers i've found to be good for the money - 9" should do you find for domestic jobs, even painting ceilings with an extension pole. I find 12" rollers too big and clumsy for working on my house, which is on the smaller side, and the tray is huge and awkward to move.

I've been using medium pile rollers for all my jobs and never been unhappy with the finish but generally im only painting smooth surfaces or a shallow artex ceiling finish

You'll also need a roller tray, i just buy a cheap one and throw it away as they're a b*stard to clean. Also a paint kettle for your cutting in will come in handy - you can use really any small container, jam jar etc but the purpose made ones are only a couple of quid - you can buy ready made paint kettle sleeves too so you dont have to wash the kettle out but plastic shopping bags are fine as long as they dont have holes in (I speak from experience )

Unless you are very tall an extension pole will come in handy for painting ceilings so you dont have to climb up and down a ladder

Just my personal experience but I used a lot of cheap rubbish when I first started and you do get what you pay for

Are you going to paint over patterned wall paper? If yes maybe buy the best trade paint you can and not bog standard white. With the latter you might be painting for a week or so in order to cover the wallpaper. Watch you don't put too many coats of paint too quickly and the wallpaper ends up on the floor as carpet.

I have used it and it is brilliant. Does exactly what it says. Word of caution - it gives off a strong smell so open the window while using it and, even though you can paint over it in a few hours, leave it to dry overnight otherwise you'll be working in the fumes.

It's plain/smooth wallpaper. It may be either paintable wallpaper or lining paper. Either way, it was done by the previous owners.

I like Hamilton perfection roller sleeves, the 9 inch are better than 12 unless you are doing ceilings, I mean 12 is jsut heavy and unwieldy on a wall.
You can get them at many stores, they help you avoid paint flashing! In other words, make a nice finish much easier.
