Outside electrical problem

Hi any advice gratefully received.
Weve been havimg few issues with occasional shorts, difficult to locate source. Outside lighting has never worked.
weve been doing some ripping up of old decking and lights and wires to end garden are coming off the shed supply (has a seperate fusebox from the house). Lights themselves were full of old water.
Weld quite like to get rid of these lights. Rather than covering them in a corner etc, is there any simple way to just cut the wire? My thought was after ensuring power off then cut, caps on each and tape around. This may be very oversimplified! Could anybody advise? Thanks for the help

Follow the wires back to where they are connected and disconnect them. (Obviously electricity off)
