I am having difficulty connecting a new timer switch to control 2 external wall lights and would appreciate some advice.
The cabling from the 2 lights is coming in to a single gang switch with L, L1 and L2 terminals.
The cables are connected to this as follows:
2x red wires (labelled as load) connected to L1
1x red wire (labelled as live) connected to L
L2 not connected
3x black cables are all connected together via a separate connector strip
The new timer switch has 'Neutral', 'Live' and 'Live Output' terminals
So it is not immediately obvious what goes where!
Thanks in advance.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Re: Replacing switch for external lights
It does look like I suspected.
The live (single red) go into the "Live" on the timer
The switch wires (Double red) go into "Live output" on the timer
The blacks (all of them*) go into the timer "Neutral"
* If you don't have room in the timer terminal, you can take another (black) wire from the existing choc bloc and connect just this.
